Francisco Loreto

Francisco Loreto was born in Ponta do Sol, on Madeira Island in Portugal. Since 1998, he teaches analysis, composition techniques, acoustics and clarinet at the Conservatory of Music – Madeira School of the Arts and helds concurrently the principal clarinet position of the Madeira Classical Orchestra. He graduated during the same year from the Lisbon College of Music and the Universidade Nova de Lisboa in clarinet and musicology, respectively.

During his studies at the aforementioned schools, he was principal clarinet of the Youth Symphony Orchestra. Fransisco Loreto also studied orchestra conducting with Maestro Roberto Perez. In 1995 he wrote “Ensaio Teórico sobre o Sequêncialismo Alfatonal” (“Theoretical Essay on Alfatonal Sequentialism”) which outlines the musical language that is used in most of his works.

His compositions, such as the string quartet, “Todos os Nomes” are regularly broadcast on RTP Madeira. He collaborated with the Madeira Ballet Company in 2002 and composed “Dez a Fio” for clarinet and piano for the 2004 edition of the International Clarinet Contest Madeira Music. Francisco Loreto founded the Atelier de Musica Contemporânea, (Contemporary Music Workshop) a group dedicated to the new musical languages at the Conservatory of Music – Madeira School of the Arts.

Eurico Carrapatoso

Eurico Carrapatoso (b. 1962, Mirandela, Trás-os-Montes) is a Portuguese composer. His works have been performed across Europe and overseas.
He graduated from the Porto University with a degree in History in 1985 and he was Assistant Professor of Social and Economic History at Portucalense University.

He began his musical studies in 1985 with José Luís Borges Coelho. In 1987, he took the fugue examination under the supervision of Fernando Lapa and Cândido Lima at the Conservatório de Música in Porto. In 1988, he began his composition studies at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa with Constança Capdeville. His final studies were with Jorge Peixinho from 1991-93 at the Conservatório Nacional de Música.

He has taught composition at several institutions: Academia de Amadores de Música, Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra and Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa.
Since 1989, he has taught Analysis and Techniques of Composition at the National Conservatoire.

He has received commissions from numerous institutions, in Portugal and abroad. He was distinguished with several awards:

  • 3rd Portuguese representation at UNESCO International Rostrum of Composers (2006, Paris)

  • Tree of Life Award / Prémio Árvore da Vida (May 2011) 

  • Eixo Atlântico Award (April 2016, Vilagarcía de Arousa, Galicia)

  • Prémio SPA for best Composition Work (March 2017)

  • Medal of Cultural Merit (May 2019, Mirandela)

Pongtorn Techaboonakho

Bangkok-born, Pongtorn Techaboonakho (b.1996) is a young generation Thai composer and audio engineer. He studied guitar with Chairat Pornamnuay and entered the Pre-College Program at College of Music, Mahidol University in 2012 majoring in classical guitar. In 2018, he obtained a Bachelor’s of Music at Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music (PGVIM) with a full scholarship where he studied classical guitar with Padet Netpakdee, Jetjumnong Jongprasert, and music composition with Dr.Anothai Nitibhon and Dr.Jiradej Setabundhu.

His compositions are exploring possibilities of using acoustic instruments with digital technology. He had collaborated with many ensembles such as Ensemble TIMF (South Korea), SETTS (Singapore), and Tacet(i) (Thailand). He was a founding member and composer at Ensemble Laboratory [EnLab]. He was a recipient of Young Thai Artist Award 2020, with his recent composition, Under Pressure (2020) for ensemble. Recently, he was commissioned by Tacet(i) as a part of British Council Project 2021: UK-SEA Connections Through Culture. 

 

Currently, he is pursuing his Master’s Degree in mixed composition at the University of Birmingham (England) under the supervision of Dr. Scott Wilson. He is also studying with a Thai composer, Piyawat Louilarpprasert.

 

He’s also taking part as a co-founder, producer, sound engineer, and a role as ‘managing director’ at Thinker Interactive since 2019
